Struggling to take showers because of low water pressure can be a nuisance to deal with each day, but this is something you might be able to fix. Low water pressure in a shower can be caused by several things. Once the problem is targeted, a plumber will be able to make the necessary changes to improve the water pressure coming from your showerhead. Here are two common ways to fix this problem.
Get a new shower head
The shower head that sprays water in your shower might be the cause of your low water pressure. Old shower heads can restrict water flow if they are clogged with minerals from the water. While you could remove the old showerhead and clean it, you might be better off having a plumber put a new one on.
Newer shower heads can also restrict water flow, and this is because they are made to do this. New shower heads are made to deliver somewhere around 2.5 gallons of water per minute. This is designed to reduce the amount of water used in homes, but it can leave people frustrated while taking showers.
If you purchase a new shower head that has a water flow restriction, you could fix the problem by drilling out the restrictor found inside the device. This would allow more water to come through at once, and it would fix the problem you are having.
Replace the water pipes
Replacing a shower head is a simpler and more cost-effective way to get better water flow, but this is not always the best solution. If you live in an older home that has old pipes, the problem might be due to the condition of the pipes.
Over time, mineral deposits can stick to the pipes. As this happens, it causes the passages in the pipes to narrow. This will create problems getting enough water flow to one particular plumbing device.
Replacing the pipes can be a big job, but it might be the only way to solve the problem. If the problem is only occurring with your shower, a plumber could simply replace the water supply line to the shower. Once this is done, you may see a huge improvement in the water flow from your shower.

Hi everyone, my name is Bonita Ploursa. After living in my first home for several years, I decided the kitchen needed a drastic change. I spent the bulk of my time baking cakes, making candy and canning jam in my kitchen. However, cleanup was a nightmare due to the lack of a dishwasher. Furthermore, my sink area could only fit one small pot, which made it impossible to wash out my cookware. I hired a plumber to help route lines for a dishwasher and replace the sink. I also had my plumber install a nice garbage disposal in the sink. The process took very little time and no effort on my part. I would like to discuss this upgrade, and others like it, on my website. I will explore the various ways plumbers move pipes and install appliances throughout the kitchen.
